April 30, 2010 ~ PEPPERMINT PARFAIT
This ever changing striped mini rose is white to yellow with red aging to pink. This Rose is in my front yard and came from the Sequoia Nursery in Visalia where they specialized in Miniature Roses. I enjoyed the privilege of meeting one of the greatest rose breeders of all times; Mr. Ralph Moore, before he retired his garden. He was the owner and operater of the Sequoia Nursery for over sixty years. Mr. Moore is considered to be the patron saint of miniature roses, having bred and introduced well over three hundred varieties of miniature and other types of roses through his extensive career. His peers often say that he has almost single-handedly created the miniature rose industry.
Ralph Moore celebrated his 101st birthday on January 14, 2008, the same day he retired from 70 years of hybridizing roses, most notably miniatures. On April 30, 2008 the Noble St. facility for Sequoia Nursery in Visalia closed its doors for the final time.
